Refik Anadol's A.I. driven art work "Glacier Dreams" is a dream-like space, free from conventional notions of Cartesian coordinates, cardinal directions! Even the physical human body challenges the notion of gravity, further enhancing the immersive experience!

Who is Refik Anadol, the brilliant AI-driven artist?

He was born in Istanbul in 1989 to a close-knit, supportive, tender family. He demostrated an early passion for mathematics and computer technologies. Anadol raised in a family of educators, frostering a love of learning where  "he learned how to learn" at very young ages.

At the age of eight, he expressed the desire to create a "machine friend" and he taught himself basic programming on a commodore 64. His close connection to machines began with coding and video games, in the same year his mother offered him a computer, it was his first computer and he already had the idea of its potential for future applications.

At the age of eight Anadol saw the film Blade Runner, he was facinated with futuristic depiction, distopias of downtown Los Angeles. He was transfixed by the scene in which a replicant discovers that her memories are an implanted part of the mind of a machine.
He said in a interview with the Financial times 2024 that:"Since that moment, one of my inspirations has been that question:
'What can a machine do with someone else's memories?"

Unique experience that the viewer is enveloped by the artwork!
Glacier Dreams is an immersive room, includes high-tech screens and mirrors that transforms images of glacier into a dream-like creations generated by the A.I. algorithms.

The experience starts with the millions of raw ethical data that has been collected by Refik Anadol and loaded in the infinitive l
ibrary.
In the begining of the show all this raw data surrounds the audience.
Then viewvers are presented with the second phase where the A.I. begins making connections between the data sets. Than the machine hallucinations begins.
It is like a danse with a magical choreography.

It is a completely otherworldly experience!

THIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS, viewer sees the dream like landscapes, melting glaciers and ice caves appearing, disappearing, transforming a beautiful sunset and/or sunrise in Antarctica or Greenland .....

Refik Anadol calls it "the new renaissance".
The space feels like stepping into another world where the glaciers move and flow all around the viewer.

What is a immersive room ?

In the era of rapid technological evolution, immersive rooms have emerged as a groundbreaking concept, bridging the gap between the digital and physical realms. These cutting-edge environments combine advance technologies such as virtual reality(VR), augmented reality(AR), and 3D projection mapping to deliver dynamic, interactive experiences that captivate the senses.By integrating auditory, visual, and tactile stimuli, immersive rooms transcend traditional boundaries, offering users the opportunity to engage with the content in deeply impactful and memorable ways.

What are the key components that make an immersive room truly transformative?

Advanced visual components such as projectors, LED walls, holographic displays cover the space to create an envelopping environment. In 360 immersive rooms, visuals seamlessly wrap around participants, immersing them in a vivid, lifelike Setting.

Audio precision surround sound system delivers multidirectional audio that sychronizes with visuals, intensifying the sense of presence.

Olfactory enhancements, adding scents is an emerging trend in the world of immersive rooms.By incorporating scent-diffusion systems, these rooms engage the sense of smell to elevate the experience.
Interactive elements motion-sensing technology, touchscreens, and eve haptic feedback Devices tenable users to interact with their surroundings.

Refik Anadol describes his work as "data painting", in which paintings no longer wait to dry, but take on changing forms in a constant flow. His pixels are reminiscent of the splashes of colour in the works of Impressionist Claude Monet, explains the exhibition's curator Catherine Hug, whose famous water-lily painting is also on show at the Kunsthaus.

This is an innovative, breathtakingly beautiful art to experience.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Kunsthaus Zurich, and in particular to Catherine Hug, the Curator, who has remarkable talent for her work.
